Growth Mindset Week has Lift Off!

This week Fordham All-Saints pupils are taking their learning to new levels by remembering to have a growth mindset!

We started with a Monday morning assembly where we learnt about all the new challenges we were going to face, and how we needed to have a growth mindset to solve them!

Breaktime Challenges
Year 6 will be spending breaktimes at different challenge stations around the playground this week. They will teach us a new skill, which we can improve by practicing!
Learning Cats Cradle

Cups Song Training

Learning it all step by step

Discovering new clapping games together

Target practice - can we improve over the week?

Learning the finer points of keepie-uppie

Getting some tips on penalty shoot-out

Determined to attempt Mrs McMillan's challenges!

First stage of Cats Cradle complete!

Crochet in Class 5
Gillian, a local crochet expert, came in and taught us how to crochet our own friendship bracelets. We found it hard at first, but now we have started a lot of us are determined to keep going!
Being shown how to start

First attempts

Showing others how it should be done helps reinforce our own learning

A face of frustration!

We learnt we needed to be patient when learning something new

Some of us had a second attempt to see if we could improve
Once we had practiced a little, it became much easier

We worked out ways of improving on our first attempts

We also became a lot more creative once we were more confident!

Paper Challenge in Class 4 & 5
Class 4 and 5 had a go at trying to create these paper structures. It was very frustrating at first, but we got there in the end!
Nervous smiles at the start

First attempt at the problem

Concentration face...

It doesn't always go right first time!

We felt a mix of emotions...

Success!!

Using creativity to solve the problem

We learn better when we are happy!

Looking at the problem from a different angle

Trying to overcome frustration!

Learning from our mistakes and making another attempt

We felt extra proud when we solved it ourselves!

  1. I had fun doing the paper challenge and I liked doing Cat's Cradle. I think I can do the first step without help now.

  2. I loved growth mindset week soooooo much because it was full of challenges. The impossible fold challenge was really tricky but I persevered and got there in the end. Matilda learnt how to do cat's cradle and taught me how to do it. We now love doing it and can't stop! JB
